Consulate Dental Plans – Insurance Plans Dental Complaints
Question: My mom bought a dental plan thinking it was dental insurance from a website that stated they were selling dental insurance. She called her order and was told it was insurance but when we get the plan and I reviewed it it clearly show as a dental discount plan.
That upset me a little because I feel she was missed lead. The problem is she does not even know where she bought it from and did not save the phone number to who she called. I called the plan and they stated we could cancel and get a refund.
My mom dose not want to cancel the plan since she wanted to see a dentist and therefore she choose to keep it. I was wondering if this happens alot? It is the point of the matter and just wondering you do you speak to about this.
Reply: It is really hard to address your case, since there is too much missing information. There are websites that may sell dental insurance but also provide discount plans as well. If a plan is a dental discount plan they it has to show as such on line. Some people do buy dental discount plans thinking they are insurance plans but that is mostly happens cause the person did not fully read the plan information provided. In your mom case you stated that she called. I do not believe that it happen often that someone would tell you over the phone it is insurance knowing full well it was a dental discount plan. Yet since she does not know where she called when she got the plan, we can only guess there may have been some miss communication going on.
