Consulate Dental Plans, Get a Pre-Treatment Estimate
Generally if you have a PPO or an Indemnity dental insurance plan, it is recommended that you get a pre-treatment estimate for dental services that are over $300.00 as a way to avoid any unwanted surprises when it comes to coverages and claim payouts. However it is only recommended, and therefore your dentist will not always avide you about doing this.
A pre-treatment estimate will allow you to know in advance what procedures are covered, the amount the benefit plan will pay toward treatment and your financial responsibility. However keep in mind that pre-treatment estimate is not a guarantee of payment. When the services are complete and a claim is received for payment, the insurance company will calculate payment based on your current eligibility, amount remaining in your annual maximum and any deductible requirements.
